Muhammad Kutty Panaparambil Ismail, professionally known as Mammootty, is a legendary Indian actor and producer celebrated primarily for his work in Malayalam cinema, though he has also acted in over 400 films across Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and English languages. Born on September 7, 1951, he was raised in Kerala and initially trained as a lawyer, graduating with an LL.B. from Government Law College, Ernakulam, and practicing law briefly before pursuing his acting aspiration. His cinematic journey began with an uncredited role in 1971, but his breakthrough came in the 1980s, leading to him becoming one of the most prolific and bankable stars in the industry. Renowned for his versatility and ability to portray complex, often larger-than-life characters, Mammootty is one of the most awarded actors in Indian cinema, having received three National Film Awards for Best Actor and the civilian honor of the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1998 for his immense contributions to the arts. He is married to Sulfath and their son, Dulquer Salmaan, is also a prominent actor.
