Matthew Fox is an American actor widely recognized for his starring roles on two major television dramas. He first gained prominence as Charlie Salinger, the eldest sibling who takes on the responsibility of raising his orphaned brothers and sisters, on the acclaimed 1990s family series Party of Five from 1994 to 2000. He achieved global fame for his subsequent role as the dedicated and driven surgeon Dr. Jack Shephard on the mystery drama Lost (2004–2010), a performance that earned him nominations for both a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy Award. Born on July 14, 1966, the Columbia University graduate transitioned into film roles after Lost, appearing in movies such as World War Z and Bone Tomahawk, before returning to television in 2022 with the limited series Last Light.
